Birth.com.au is a vast resource, with over 600 topics and 1.2 million words. We have designed the site to make it easy to find exactly what you need and to move around with ease.

Information features

1. Page index bar

Throughout the information sections there is a progress meter (page index bar) at the top and bottom of each page, like the one below.

Page Navigation Bar

This provides a visual indication of your progression through each section or topic. If you put your mouse cursor over a page number on this bar, the topic for each page will display as rollover text. You can also use the 'back' and 'next' buttons at the end of the bar (on the right), to move to adjacent pages.

2. Info Index

The information index page displays all the main topics as well as some handy tools like our birth calculator. There is also an info index in the left column of all the information pages. To find a topic quickly use our birthsearch® facility.

3. birthsearch®

Our birthsearch® is located on the green navigation on every page. You can type in key words to find a specific topic.

4. Pop-up images

Many of the information pages have pop-up images. These can be viewed by clicking on the word 'image' next to the symbol within the text of the page, along with information describing what that image shows.

When you have finished viewing the image, remember to click the X in the top of the box to close the image down. If you do not do this, the opened image windows will be minimised in your web browser and accumulate on your 'task' or 'tool' bar on your screen. If your computer program has the facility to view 'pop-up boxes' turned off, you will need to turn this on to view the images (by choosing 'tools', then 'internet options', then 'advanced'). You may also need to adjust internet security settings to allow pop-ups.

5. Did you know?

Occasionally, you will come across the phrase "Did you know?" next to a small symbol. If you click on this phrase, you will activate a pop-up box (or window) with an interesting piece of information. When you have finished reading the " Did you know?", you will need to click the X in top corner of the box to close it. These windows work in a similar way to the pop-up images above. Therefore, if you do not close the box by clicking on the X, the pop-up box will be minimised and accumulate on your web browser 'task' or 'tool' bar.

6. Glossary terms

Words and phrases that require a glossary definition have the meaning embedded into the text on each page. The glossary terms are seen as bolded orange words (not underlined). If you roll your mouse cursor over a glossary term, the meaning will pop-up in a small rollover text box. If the box shuts before you have read the entire definition, just roll your mouse over the word again, to make the box reappear.
